today the EDL (english defence league) protested in the city near where i live and where i go to college. i was going to avoid it but ended up going, to be one of the many protesting against their ‘protest’. it was really more like a riot. i’ve never experienced anything like it - the city centre was boarded up, closed and full of police and riot vans. at one point we ended up next to the three pubs they were keeping the EDL supporters, surrounded by police officers, who just chanted disgusting things and looked like football hooligans for lack of a better description. oh, they also smashed the window of a pub, abused the police and swore at us when they got on the bus. i’ve never felt so sick seeing other people. they aren’t defending England. they are all complete twats, looking for trouble in one of the most tolerant cities in the UK.
